Open Demat Account in Zerodha (Process, Documents and Charges)

Zerodha offers two ways to open the demat account – Online and Offline.

  • Online account opening – Any individual resident of India can open Zerodha demat account online which is easy to set up.
  • Offline account opening – If you want to open a HUF, an NRI or a company’s demat account, then you have to follow the offline process.

How to Open Demat Account in Zerodha (Online)

  • Visit Www.Zerodha.Com
  • Click on the signup button
  • Enter your mobile number and the OTP received on your mobile number.
  • Fill in your details like your Pan card number, DOB, and bank account details to complete the application.

Offline Zerodha Demat Account Opening Process 

You will have to download application forms from Zerodha’s support portal or you can click the below links to get the required form.

Print out the form, fill it up and send it to Zerodha’s head office mentioned below –

Documents Required to Open Demat Account in Zerodha 

1. Copy of PAN card

2. Aadhaar Number for KYC verification. (Your operational mobile must be linked with your Aadhar number to receive the OTP)

3. Bank Proof – Any of the following to link your bank account with the Zerodha demat trading account.

  • A personalised cancelled cheque (Personalised means your name should be printed on it)
  • Your bank statement with both the IFSC and MICR code mentioned on it
  • Passbook first page.

Note –  The bank proof must include your name, bank logo/sign/stamp, account number, IFSC, and MICR code.

4. A scanned copy of your signature.

5. Income proof (Optional) – Any of the following.

  • Form-16
  • Income Tax Return Acknowledgment
  • Last 6-month bank statement
  • Latest salary slip
  • Networth certificate from a CA

Note – Income proof is required only if you wish to trade in Futures and Options – Equity, Commodity, and Currency.

In the online process, you have to upload all the documents while filing the online form.

Additional Documents Required For The Offline Account Opening Process

You need some additional documents apart from the above-mentioned ones as cited below –

  • Copy of Aadhar card
  • One Passport size photograph (cross-signed)
  • Address proof – Copy of Driving license, Voter ID, Passport, Aadhaar Card

Where to send Zerodha’s nomination form?

You can add the nomination to your Zerodha’s account in two ways –

  • Go to Console.Zerodha.Com
  • Click on nomination
  • Fill in the details and that’s it.

You have to upload your nominee’s self-attested Aadhar card copy along with other details.

#2. Offline method

Is it safe to open an account in Zerodha?

Yes. Zerodha is a SEBI registered broker which is safe to use.

Can I open a Zerodha account for a minor?

Yes, you can open a Zerodha account for minors through the offline process. But remember a minor cannot buy shares.
